The Department of English hosted a vibrant “Mind Spark” programme inviting students to display their talents in painting, drawing, collage, articles, and sketches. The event encouraged creative exploration beyond academics, providing a platform for students to showcase artistic and literary skills.

Extension Activities – Community Outreach

Extension Activity at SMS English Medium School

23rd & 24th October 2024

An Extension activity was organised by the Department of English for the B.A. English Optional students on 23/10/2024 and 24/10/2024, where they visited SMS English Medium School (State Syllabus) accompanied by English language teachers of SMS Degree College.

Students engaged in interactive teaching sessions, language mentorship, and classroom storytelling, bridging the gap between academic learning and community engagement.

The Department of English organised another extension activity for the B.A. English Optional students on 22/10/2025, where they visited SMS English Medium School (State Syllabus) accompanied by English language teachers of SMS Degree College.

The visit focused on fostering communication skills, conducting spoken English sessions, and introducing creative writing techniques to school children.

Literary Association Activities

The Department of English regularly organizes literary competitions including elocution, poetry recitation, debate, and creative writing workshops. Students actively participate in inter-collegiate fests and state-level literary events.

Student Development Programs

Language enhancement seminars, soft skills training, and career guidance sessions are conducted to prepare students for teaching, media, and civil services.

Department Magazine.

Students contribute articles, poems, and short stories to the annual departmental magazine “Literary Echoes”, fostering a culture of writing and publication.
