The academic year 2025–2026 witnessed a
balanced integration of academic excellence, research achievements, and
field-based learning. The department continued its commitment to promoting
regional heritage studies while equipping students with both theoretical and
practical knowledge.
Among faculty achievements, Dr. Prashantha
Shetty successfully completed his Ph.D. on the prehistoric and protohistoric
culture of Coastal Karnataka and continued to serve as a member of the BOS and
BOE at Mangalore University. Principal Dr. Robert Rodriguez J contributed to
research through publication in an ISSN-indexed journal. Mr. Damodar Shettigar
served as a BOE member and participated in a state-level seminar, while Mr.
Nagaraj attended syllabus-oriented seminars to enhance his academic engagement.
The department also recorded a significant
student achievement, with Ms. Fathima Shalula securing the 10th rank in the B.A.
Degree Examination for the academic year 2024–2025.
In collaboration with IQAC, the department
organized the Dr. B. Vasantha Shetty Memorial Guest Lecture on February 18,
2026, featuring Prof. Dr. Malathi K. Moorthi, who highlighted contributions to epigraphy
and megalithic studies. The programme was presided over by the Principal, with
participation from Dr. Jagadish Shetty and Ms. Nirupama Shetty. A career
guidance session on opportunities after B.A. was also conducted by Mr. Nagaraj.
As part of skill development initiatives, a
Certificate Course on *Palaeography: Study of Ancient Indian Scripts* was
conducted from May 4 to May 25, 2026, providing practical training in script
reading and manuscript studies to students and the public.
To enhance experiential learning, a field
visit was organized on March 26, 2026, covering historically significant sites
such as Banavasi, Gudnapura, Mirjan Fort, Sirsi Marikamba, and Murudeshwara,
enabling students to connect classroom learning with real-world heritage
contexts.
Overall, the department successfully
concluded the academic year with notable achievements in research, student
performance, academic events, and field exposure, reaffirming its commitment to
academic excellence and heritage studies.
