Topic: State Education Policy β New Syllabus for First Year Students

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Department of History, Ancient History and
Archaeology
of SMS College, Brahmavar, in association with MANUSHA (Mangalore University History Teachersβ
Association),
successfully organized a One-Day State Level Workshop on βState Education Policy β New Syllabus for
First Year Studentsβ.
The workshop began with an inaugural session presided over by Mr. M.C. Mathai.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Deepika Shetty, who delivered the keynote address highlighting
ancient urban planning and the historical importance of Barkur.
Mr. Santosh Shetty (Resil Chemicals Pvt. Ltd.) attended as Guest of Honour and appreciated the
initiative.
Technical Sessions:
- Session I: Dr. Jayaram Shettigar β Objectives of syllabus revision.
- Session II: Prof. K. Gopal β Curriculum structure and teaching strategies.
- Session III: Prof. Ganesh Pai β Local history and archaeological integration.
The valedictory session was presided over by Dr. Robert Rodrigues.
Mr. Sachin Poojary attended as Guest of Honour.
The workshop had participation from 33 faculty members across Mangalore University colleges.

REPORT ON DR. B. VASANTHA SHETTY MEMORIAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXHIBITION Organized by IQAC and Department
of History, Ancient History and Archaeology Date: 18.02.2025 | Venue: SMS College, Brahmavar
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Department of History, Ancient History and
Archaeology of SMS College, Brahmavar jointly organized the Dr. B. Vasantha Shetty Memorial
Archaeological Exhibition on 18th February 2025, in fond memory of the late Dr. B. Vasantha Shetty,
a renowned scholar and former faculty member who made significant contributions to the field of
archaeology and education.
The event was graced by Mr. Dinakar Shetty, Retired Teacher and Executive Committee Member of the
Alumni Association of SMS College, as the Chief Guest. In his address, Mr. Shetty recalled the
dedication and academic excellence of Dr. B. Vasantha Shetty and highlighted the importance of
preserving and promoting archaeological awareness among students and the general public.
The exhibition showcased a curated collection of photographs, excavation reports, antiquities,
replicas of tools and pottery, and interpretative displays related to major archaeological sites of
India with a special focus on coastal Karnataka. It was well-received by students, faculty, and
visitors, and served as an effective medium to foster interest in archaeology and heritage
studies.
The exhibition also aimed to inspire young minds to explore historical inquiry and emphasized the
importance of archaeology in reconstructing our past. Students of History, Ancient History, and
Archaeology actively participated in organizing and presenting the exhibits.
The event was a fitting tribute to the memory of Dr. B. Vasantha Shetty, whose legacy continues to
inspire academic pursuits in the field of archaeology at SMS College, Brahmavar.
